Review by: Justyn Brodsky & Dave Welsh
We last reviewed Hard Rock outfit, After Alice, in January 2016. One year later, their music is even more infectious, and their presence has expanded gracefully.
Like stated in the first review, AA‘s spot-on and high range, flawless vocal structures are still ever present with the band’s main focus being their songwriting, which in our opinion is still in the realm of something that is almost unheard of in today’s Rock/Metal category. Basically, if you’re a big fan of the 90’s AKA when great songwriting still existed, then this band is an absolute must-hear for you.
With time comes more greatness for After Alice with the release of their newest single that’s spreading like wildfire on podcasts and radio, “99 Gold”. Once again, we have astonishment in the production value. The band obviously knows where their greatest strengths are, and they put it right to the forefront where it belongs. The guitar riff drives this song forward until the high vocal range grabs you by the throat. And by the time you get to the catchy chorus, your mind is still trying to catch up to the adrenaline rush that’s been thrown at you (whether you were prepared or not).
The chorus is catchy, memorable, and sticks like glue. And if you’re a guitarist, the opening riff to this track will definitely be chugging in your head even while you sleep. It’s an infectious riff, and it’s perhaps the simplicity and ability to write a proper vocal melody that makes After Alice as effective as they are.
One word of this song title describes this song beautifully: gold. Hey, After Alice, can we get some more please?
