Album Review: Rocky Jones – “Welcome To Vultureville” LP

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

I have a lot of Hip Hop of all prototypes come through our platform. Some artists are veterans while others may be just starting out. And for this 24-year old up & comer from Trenton, New Jersey, we have an up & comer that hit the ground running.

This young fresh artist goes by Rocky Jones, a very charismatic and passionate artist that decided to come out of the gate with something that will give people the first and best impression upon discovery; and that ear-grabbing effort is his LP Welcome To Vultureville. A collection of tracks that not only showcases Jones‘ writing and performing abilities, but done in a way where every song could easily be deemed an anthem, with some of the best production value today’s Hip Hop could offer.

Starting out with track 1 we have the Soul-driven “Passion 4 Paper”,  a great track opener with a strong presence of vocal delivery, rhythmic flow with versatility, and a very effective progression in the overall execution of the song that perfectly parallels the high quality production value. This track will definitely entice you to keep listening.

Following up with “Single for the Summertime”, which landed as #1 on the Beatscore Weekly Top 25, we have an energetic and upbeat song that does perfect justice to the title. An anthem that dynamically expresses the perks of summertime, and with a positive edge that touches on today’s mainstream market in a very effective way. This also an anthem for the ladies, and about the ladies. So DJs should definitely be adding this one to their spin list at the club.

Now “Baby Don’t Change” is another upbeat banger with undeniable hooks and production value. The charisma in this track is very evident, and adds spice to the overall projection of the content, mood, and overall signature sound that Jones delivers on every track. No matter the mood, content, or subject matter, Jones knows how to integrate his persona in all the proper places as an artist. And this track, is indeed another demonstration of that.

With the sexually scandalous “Side Nigga”, we definitely have the laid-back track on the album, however, with a great lyrical twist. Everyone wants a side piece once in awhile. And in this version, we get to see it through a different perspective. It’s a tale of wanting to be chased instead of doing the chasing. You wanna be her side piece. Rather than her being ours. Stroke of genius in the content. A rhythmic flow with the perfect attitude in vocal delivery, and one of my personal favorites on this LP.

With the next track “Brother’s Keeper”, we have a great mix of what we’ve heard so far on this LP, and all the elements that make this album as effective as it is. There’s a more relaxed vocal delivery, but the R&B sensibilities really help carry the torch on this one and definitely thrusts the likability factors into overdrive.

Last but not least, “Summer’s Over” is another anthemic and powerful R&B oriented track that combines an insatiable mix of yesterday’s and today’s mainstream Hip Hop sensibilities. This one has the signature sound we’ve come to love about this album so far, and is a perfect track for almost any mood. Jones really knows how to hit it out of the park with his charisma and rhythmic flow techniques. And just like every predecessor we’ve heard, this track fits the Rocky Jones formula. And for an up & comer, I’m incredibly excited to hear what he comes out with later on as his career manifests.

Welcome to Vultureville LP is definitely one of the best Hip Hop albums that has come through our network from a fresh artist. With this LP, Rocky Jones is armed with something that a lot of Artists lose sight of for success: an album of killer songs! Pick this record up as soon as you can. You will have a hard time believing that something this mind blowing came from a young, fresh artist.
