Artist Review: DBT – “Out Of Darkness” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Dark, hypnotic and full of ambience, we get a bass-driven sonic force from DBT‘s newest single “Out Of Darkness.”

With subtle buildups and ascending measures that keep our anticipation in the limelight of our attention, this track keeps you completely transfixed on where the song goes next. Though it isn’t structured with any real intricacies, it’s actually the simple elements this song delivers that is most effective. And that’s what makes DBT a much needed breath of fresh air – it’s EDM without all the convoluted post production theatrics we hear far too often.

The song flows very well and sustains great pacing. The female vocal melodies are placed correctly and really bring a cinematic edge to the overall sound, which gives each measure more versatility and likability factors as the track plays out. It’s climactic, but not explosive. This song hits a medium ground that fits appropriately and anything extra than what is already there could risk saturating the track – but we don’t get any of that here. It’s apparent that DBT chooses wisely when it comes to piecing it all together and keeps the importance of crafty songwriting structures at the forefront.

However, this song has plenty of innovation and originality that helps carry the torch throughout the song’s overall execution. There’s a familiarity in the airwaves as each element of the song’s aura plays out. But at the same time, it showcases a multifaceted wave of freshness that we can really resonate with and identify with uniquely. And that’s what makes “Out Of Darkness” the gem that it really is.

If you’re looking for the next feel-good EDM track that is chill yet still provides that bass-booming edginess, then “Out Of Darkness” will be one of your new favorites inevitably.
