Music fans know that the underground is where the magic happens. The greatest music usually comes from the artists most casual fans haven’t quite heard about yet but who are pushing hard to get their message out into the world. Mr. I-10 is a rapper & artist on the rise who is doing exactly that.
Emerging from the elite Hip Hop music scene in the US market coast to coast and originally hailing from Florida’s Jackson County, Mr. I-10 (AKAs: J. Tripp, Thulsa Doom, Tha Preachers Son) has been in the game since 2001 and is ready to hit the ground running since discovering his passion for the genre in the 80s. After years of listening to a vast array of different artists and gathering the tools to pursue his respective niche and artistic merit, he’s ready to delve into the music realm and perfect his prospective signature sound, and feels that his time is now.
During his younger years while growing up in a military household, the aspiring artist began moving around with his family to different cities and communities, which lead to his manifestation of love for local and underground artists. And after attending shows and witnessing the artist legwork first hand, he began to encompass an insatiable respect for the grind and started becoming inspired.
While listening to radio station KPOO in the Frisco Bay Area of California, he ran across many artists we’ve come to know in today’s music world before they became famous and rooted for them while they were still underdogs coming up in the scene. He expressed a profound respect for them as the ones who didn’t, and would be a pivotal point in his discovery of the hustle and grind as an artist on the rise still developing his first hand knowledge of the Hip Hop game and the business that surrounded it. Some of the artists he followed earlier in their careers include today’s superstars from labels like Rap-A-Lot, Death Row, Sic-Wid-It, Awol, No Limit, Cash Money, among several others. He followed them all with a special affinity for music from the West Coast and the South, and embraced the experiences of his surroundings and pursuits to get into the swing of things as an artist, which at this point was inevitable and a dream within reach. And this is when he began to manifest his signature sound and versatility as an artist – creating a style that shares resemblance to no one else and is one within his own right that he can truly own. And Mr. I-10 began to get his feet off the ground, with every horizon in sight and experience in the game to give him the drive to get there.
“I’m grown, I don’t compete with these kids. I don’t hate, because I see what we do as two different things”
Known for his versatile rhyming structures, Mr. I-10 exhibits the skills and dedication needed to really solidify his signature sound and stylization that is both original and familiar. Influenced and inspired by his daughter and the prospect of not giving up on dreams even if manifested or put on hold long ago, Ten is ready to show the world what he’s made of and is already on a path of creating important work. With lyrical content that resonates with real life situations ranging from child support, politics, the ideation of guns, the military, to the dynamics of the Black American Family, Ten’s music touches on subject matter that people and listeners can identify with and take in at its face value, rather than beat around the bush. His music touches on equal parts originality and familiarity, giving his audience a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable, and most of all, inspirational. Ten was inspired to be inspired, and that’s the musical path that got him to this point, and has no intention of slowing down his momentum anytime soon.
These days, he knows how to enjoy life, using his craft to be a voice for hip-hop, continuing its movement with his community and fanbase, and living the life of an artist on the rise. He has come a long way and is driven to maintain his originality and to shoot for greatness without letting anyone knock him down. Judging by his skill set and continued drive to succeed so far, Ten will be well on his way to the top. And mainstream music fans will soon be used to hearing him as a household name. His debut Album “Facing Extinction” is slated for an early 2019 release and will be available on several digital music retailers and streaming platforms.
