Album Review: Rob Alexander – “Being Myself” LP

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Rob Alexander has put together a plethora of songs that bring out many different elements of Rock, Alternative, and a soft-Rock approach to many songs that are detail oriented, charming and versatile; designed to win you over and offer something for everyone on Rob‘s 15-track masterpiece “Being Myself”.

The album name lives up to the name in every way, but Rob (just like any other artist) draws reminiscences to several personal influences, including industry heavyweights like Elton John. Rob began hitting the ground running in the music realm around 2018 with the release of his freshman record “Long Road Coming Home”, which was released in February of that year. While garnering a solid buzz for his name since his first album, he quickly gathered up a group of elite musicians to assist him with recording a catalogue of new songs in 2019. This album is what would end up being his critically acclaimed “Being Myself”, his most successful album to date. On top of this sophomore record being much better than the precedent effort, this record also featured several world class musicians including 3 members of Elton John’s current musical lineup; comprised of Matt Bissonette on bass guitar, Kim Bullard on keyboards, and John Mahon on drums and percussion. The album was produced by Gabe Lopez.

A Little More About Rob Alexander:

While Rob‘s album has 15 versatile and distinctive tracks that have something for just about anyone, one thing that’s made apparent is his precise attention to detail; very multifaceted chord progressions with very selective vocal melodies that aren’t only catchy, but genuinely well thought out as well. The type of vocal melody choices where you honestly wouldn’t change one thing. With piano-driven, soothing songs that really give this record more charm than you’d ever expect, this album does pick up the pace with tracks like “We’re Living In A Dream” and the electronic-infused “Secrets & Lies”, which in my opinion projects one of the best choruses on the record, but never trails ahead of the rest of the song’s.

Rob Alexander‘s story is quite one to behold from writing two well-received albums in two years, one which includes members of one of his all time idols; feats that even big time artists sometimes don’t get to experience nowadays. Currently, 3 anchor singles are playing regularly throughout the radio circuit from his “Being Myself” album; including the tracks “Never Gonna Let You Go”, “Friend Of Mine (Elton’s Epic)”, and the ambient “Life As We Know It”, which all garner airplay regionally throughout the country. This 15-track gem is a masterpiece of its kind and it’ll be very difficult to pick a favorite song once you take a listen to it. Rob Alexander truly hits it out of the park with the triumphantly produced and performed “Being Myself”.
