Review by: Justyn W. Brodsky
When it comes to hot rhythms and extreme street heat, Hip Hop recording artist Sargeant Q (aka SGT Q) is the name of the game, and he comes out swinging once again with his newest hot single “The Boss”.
The title definitely fits for this one; the rhythmic and punchy beat in this track really grabs your attention throughout the track’s duration and brings SGT Q‘s rhymes to the forefront. His clever rhyming schemes and lyrical punchlines are presented clearly with a resonance of outbursts and in-your-face moments, making his bars and hooks objectively effective and on another level altogether. With a diligently placed sing-songy chorus to round out each verse, the melody choices on this single are well-placed, well paced, and appropriate in all the right places. It’s a straight up banger, and the bass will tear your roof off.
Best part about “The Boss” is its staying power; its ability to stay with you even after it’s over. It has a catchiness that is reminiscent of old school Rap with adequate touches of today’s more notable Hip Hop artists. His sound is mainstream worthy, but still holds true to an old school and underground signature sound that the streets will heat up. His sound is also comprised of many noticeable influences like Lil Wayne and Meek Mill, but still maintains the perfect balance of equal parts originality and familiarity; giving his fans a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable.
SGT Q is no stranger to the game. He charted in the UK on the #4 position on the Billboard in 2017, and has worked alongside many superstars including T.I., Wu Tang Clan and many others. And “The Boss” is a solid demonstration of who SGT Q is and encompasses his craft in a way that’ll entice you to check into his back catalogue as well as his future prospects. You can’t go wrong with this song.
