Icelandic recording artist KÍTA is quite the trifecta. She diligently recorded, wrote, and produced her multifaceted Electro-Pop debut album ‘Postponed’ over a 3 year period (hence the album title reflecting the process of pushing back the production, or “postponing” it over that time period). But just like almost anything that takes a crucial amount of time and hard work, the end result is rewarding and fulfilling; and this reward comes in the form of the atmospheric and indie debut of KÍTA‘s record ‘Postponed’ in its finished greatness.
Comprised of 8 versatile tracks with messages of empowerment, heightened moments of life, adversities and many different moods and stories that surround the album, KÍTA brings forth a signature sound that is vivacious, charismatic and multilayered with many different ambient additives to deliver a powerful Pop sound with electronically-infused textures to tie it all together into an album of joy and fascination. While plenty of melody is offered on this record, her story-telling lyrics echo like a choir with many layerings of her own vocal projections to emphasize each track into something more than meets the ear. She shares a reminiscent vocal quality similar to super stars like Lorde and Dua Lipa, but with more class and less flash – leaving her musical persona more mysterious and out in the open in a way where you can draw your own conclusions about her. When listening to ‘Postponed,’ you gather a sense of a girl that will not be judged but leaves subtle hints of a mysterious portrayal. And by that, we mean portrayal of herself – no matter how you may view her. But when listening to her, it all comes together for her where it’s what she says that gives her the biggest presence. Showcasing herself as an artist with a loud, powerful and effective message that resonates throughout the landscape,
The two standouts on this album are definitely back-to-back tracks “Actions Speak More” and “Still Young.” Songs with subtlety, sounds of nature and beautiful additives of upper 3rd harmonies. But each have their own uniqueness. “Still Young” has that finger snapping “Royals” feeling with lyrics that speak of nostalgia, but still remaining in the moment, and refusing to take your youth for granted. The bluesy Tracy Chapman-style guitar progression is an amazing musicianship factor in this song and really brings this song to life with its uniqueness and versatility.
Overall, ‘Postponed’ is definitely an album worth waiting for, for those who have been involved with the project since the beginning – especially for KÍTA herself. These are 8 unforgettable tracks you’ll be coming back to time and time again, and hopefully her next release won’t take three years [smile]. The album is currently available on Spotify, Apple Music and several other digital music streaming platforms.
