Exclusive Artist Interview: Olya K

Known for her distinctive and versatile sound, California-based recording artist Olya K has been leaving an insatiable impact on the music world ever since she emerged onto the market. Originally from Bulgaria, her hit song “Hollywood” and the more-recent “Waking up in Nashville [Eggs and Bacon]” are brilliantly crafted, catchy tunes that have won over countless fans since their release dates – and so far has risen the bar for the rising artist. As Olya K continues to hit the ground running, we got the chance to sit down with her for an exclusive interview about her past, present, future, and what’s in store for her as she continues to pursue a very ambitious music career.

•How did you choose your stage name?

I have a very long last name so I decided to make it easier for my fans and I picked Olya K. I was born in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria as you know.

•How do you like Los Angeles?

I moved here from Nashville in 2014 and I love it. I also miss Nashville and I’ve been there twice since I moved.

•The pandemic has really thrown a wrench into the live music experience and for artists altogether. How has it affected you and your career?

I miss the live shows but I didn’t have many anyway. So I just focused on sending my best 2 songs to radios and magazines. My Pop song “Hollywood ” kept me busy throughout 2020. It reached 150,000 plays on Spotify alone. It was on the top of the MTV promo site charts for unsigned artists for a few months.

•What are some of your music influences?

I’m a versatile artist with a huge range of musical influences, I like Pop, Rock and R&B. A good song with a good melody and lyrics-that’s what I admire. It can be any style.

•What kind of concepts do you tend to write about as an artist? Shine some light on that.

I wrote my Pop song “Hollywood” after my 5th year in California. Similar thing happened after living in Nashville. So here we have a interesting pattern- I tend to write about my life in the city I’m in…

I like to use a dash of humor- in those 2 songs in particular. I don’t want to take myself too seriously...

•Tell us something about your new song “Waking up in Nashville”

I went back to Nashville in the end of 2020 to record a new Country-Rock version of “Waking up in Nashville”. During the time I lived there, that song was mostly known as the “Eggs and Bacon ” song…Now it’s in a happier tempo- a faster version.

•What’s in store for you in 2021? Give us the goods.

I’m getting ready for shooting a new music video for “Waking up in Nashville “. I’m so glad I returned to music in the last couple of years with “Hollywood”- I wasn’t very active prior to that. Now, this year, my latest release “Waking up in Nashville” will keep me busy with interviews and radio appearances. And I hope the video turns out nice. Would like to thank all the fans for requesting my songs to be played on the radio. And please follow me on social media. Good luck to all!
