Exclusive Artist Review: Tone Da Boss – “Antonio” Album/LP

Rising rapper Tone Da Boss has graced our platform before and made an insatiable impression with his distinctive flow and clever lyrical outbursts. Now, with the recent release of his full length album ‘Antonio’, his signature sound comes to the forefront full circle and truly encapsulates his artistic merit.

This 20-track juggernaut has a very versatile approach that diligently combines yesterday’s nostalgic Hip Hop eras with today’s more modern and contemporary sensibility. It touches on equal parts originality and familiarity, giving each listener a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable. Written as a record that reflects on the 2020 Covid pandemic, Tone Da Boss comes out swinging on this record with his melodic vocal structures and brilliantly written bars from many effective musical angles. Opening track “Antonio’s Story” has a brilliant flow and really launches the record into high energy. Tone‘s persistent and in-your-face style is very rhythmic and multifaceted, leaving us with a visceral listening experience that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Follow-up track “Fear” has a hypnotic 90s-era beat with Tupac/Biggie vibes that effectively encompass the world issues in Tone‘s lyrical content. This track is undeniably powerful and really peers into his soul as an artist and human, delving into deeper topics that today’s mainstream artists usually shy away from or sugar coat to some degree. Meanwhile pandemic-themed track “Stuck Inside” has a Rock vibe that Blink 182 would approve of. This track is not only a breath of fresh air but also an anthemic number that is jam packed with several crucial vocal melodies that really explore Tone‘s songwriting structures. Which also leads up to another pandemic track, “Covid 19.” A song that directly explores the virus itself and really captures the worldwide effect it had on all of us as a human race. This track also demonstrates the effectiveness of Tone‘s lyrical delivery with his real-world-issues content and truly showcases the parallels between the performance and production value in its entirety. It brings the album together with a sense of wholesomeness that today’s more prominent rap artists rarely touch on.

This album is definitely one for the books when it comes to Tone Da Boss‘ discography and career altogether. It’s the type of record with unwavering staying power, which will easily entice any listener to do a deeper dive into his musical realm. Each track pays a vast array of attentiveness to detail and you can easily see (and hear) that Tone put his blood, sweat and tears into this record with his authentic writing style. You can get your copy of the album on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and several other digital music streaming platforms. We recommend it on all counts and it’ll easily become one of your favorites for 2021.
