It’s an album that diligently balances originality and familiarity, giving the listener a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable. Opening track “I Miss You Here In Hollywood (feat. Zach Cook)” is a direct example of this and really sets the tone for the rest of the album. Tony’s mid-to-high range vocals are brilliantly written and structured with strong melodies in a way that’ll garner your undivided attention throughout the record’s duration. Zach Cook’s verse is very well placed, well paced and really adds a layer of depth that enhances the visceral listening experience, something made apparent from the moment this track starts. It’s a very strong opener that brings Tony’s signature stylization to the forefront in a way that is both effective and articulate.

Another notable track on this album is the more upbeat “Not Sober (feat. Exclusive Artist Interview: WHYNE

Emerging from the musical landscapes of Italy, Artist/Producer WHYNE began producing in 2013 and is known for his distinctive and versatile signature sound and remixes, mastering his craft on software including Logic Pro and Ableton. He quickly began gaining traction, eventually getting his name out and subsequently began producing for other artists and collaborators until 2018 when he decided to designate his focus completely on his own material as a solo artist. Though WHYNE is relatively new to the market, he has several years of hard work and experience under his belt as well as a formal music education from the Italian Conservatorio. He takes inspiration from several different industry heavyweights including Skrillex, Daft Punk, Billie Eilish, Our Last Night, Lady Gaga, Lauv, Fall Out Boy and a vast array of others. Now with WHYNE ready to emerge into the market in full force, we got a chance to do an exclusive interview with him, tapping into his background, influences, and what the near future has in store.

How’d you come up with the artist name Whyne?

It comes from my birth name Alex Wayne, which can translate to WHYNE. Whine means like the act of crying, maybe crying to yourself ‘cause you’re scared of not being good enough, so it’s like a name with added irony, like I’m calling me little and crying, but it’s not like that, I had a time in my past where I cried so many times because I felt like I was not enough, and now it’s enough – I’m not crying anymore, so I call myself WHYNE as sort of a way of teasing myself.

What music scene/city do you currently represent?

I currently represent Italy, but my dream is going to the US.

The pandemic has really thrown a wrench into the live music experience and for artists altogether. How has it affected you and your career (if at all)?

The pandemic makes me think more about myself and it has also helped find the true me and what I really want in my career.

What are some of your music influences?

I take inspiration from various artists from Skrillex to Two Steps From Hell, Illenium, Our Last Night, Slander, Billie Eilish, Noisia, Whitney, Lady Gaga, Excision, and I can go on with Porter Robinson, Daft Punk, Lauv, Fall Out Boy, Kiiara…I don’t want to put my mind on a “cage” of just one genre. I produce what I feel in that moment, from future bass to glitch hop, from dubstep to pop…etc.

What kind of concepts do you tend to write about as an artist? Shine some light on that.

I’m a difficult person to understand, I think in a strange way. I write about life experiences, they could be happy or sad. I like to talk about people on my social about their stories and trying to take what they feel and bring that to my track. Every time I write lyrics or a track I imagine myself in a place – every time it’s a different place, like a beach in the morning or woods in the night, that’s helped me to look at what I’m doing from another point of view and has also helped me to tell a “story” with my track.

When is your debut release coming out?

My debut release will be out at the end of July / beginning of August.

What’s in store for you in 2021? Give us the goods.

I have so many tracks ready and so many artists to collaborate with, I wanna bring a new light to the world through music.

Exclusive Artist Review: Juan Manuel Ruiz – “Cutouts” Album

Hailing from the landscapes of Spain, recording artist and composer Juan Manuel Ruiz began his journey into the market when he released his debut album ‘Will’ in 2018. Since that time, Ruiz has manifested into a multifaceted and versatile artist with distinctively glistening compositions and melodies, creating a signature sound that is dynamic, emotional and progressively innovative. Ruiz throughout 2019 and 2020 would continue to write, compose and put together another album of songs that would enhance his stylization and showcase his compositions in a way that is genuine and effective; subsequently raising the bar since his debut. Now, in 2021, he has brought these songs to fruition with his newest sophomore release ‘Cutouts’, comprised of 10 visceral tracks that are crafty, creative and completely self-written and produced.

One thing you’ll immediately notice on this album is Ruiz’s composition style and ability to construct a strong melody. He takes a distinctive chord progression and diligently enhances its foundation into a glowing instrumental that really gives you a visceral listening experience. Opening title track “Cutouts” is a direct example of this and really showcases the anthemic aura that encompasses just about every song on the album. With the production value adding textures of chorus and reverb to give the song a more subtle tone, this track dynamically emanates passion, emotion and moods combined with rhythmic touches. It’s one of the unforgettable songs on this record and really casts a crucial spotlight on Ruiz’s musicianship factors. Another notable song with a similar approach is “In My Dreams”, which easily compliments the opening track in a very effective way, delving deeper into Ruiz’s overall signature sound. This song especially has an emotion-driven melody that brings out many angles of his talent, and really captures a melodic atmosphere that is heard throughout this album’s duration. These first two tracks start the album out very strong and really set the tone for what’s to come in the subsequent songs.

Another track that really grabs at your attention is “Fata Morgana”. Definitely one of the more upbeat tracks on the record, this song has a haunting melody that is ominous and mysterious. It’s a multi layered song with colorful interludes and transitions, giving it a more story-telling feel similar to a film score or soundtrack. This track especially explores many facets of Ruiz’s songwriting structures and really casts a spotlight onto the production value and artistic merit that is made apparent throughout the album. It’s a diligently crafted piece that is highly versatile and effectively showcases Ruiz’s skills both as a musician and producer. Overall, ‘Cutouts’ is a triumphant effort that will capture many musical hearts and fans of rising composers.
