Artist Review: Oxaï Roura

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

This is definitely new food for the ear, with a fresh concept that is both atmospheric and unique.

Those familiar with African polyrhythms and polyphonic chants will definitely identify with French-Guianese Composer & Percussionist/Vocalist Oxaï Roura, a self-taught pioneer of his music & culture who was born in a multicultural family of artists, poets, and musicians; and began his journey into the realm of drumming at the young age of three.

Performing under a genre that mixes a diverse blend of Electronica, Sacred Afro-Brazilian Drums & Bass, and Afroamazonika, Roura‘s music offers up an ambience and atmosphere that is themed around dreams, outer space, and parallel dimensions. Music that could be described in essence with futuristic-electronic sounds, ancient mystic voices, and spiritual percussion from different parts of the world.

With the short-and-sweet vocally driven track “Back From Sirius B (Nommo)”, we get a versatile demonstration of the vocal side of Roura‘s multicultural sound and technique. And although very short in its runtime, it definitely keeps you cliffhanging and intrigued to explore more of what this artist has to offer.

With his second single, “America + Europe 21: The Secret Alien Union”, we definitely get to grasp onto more of the signature style Roura expresses in both his performance and production value. As an attribute to the solar system and the planets altogether, this space-themed track has elements of Industrial and a poetic Hip Hop sensibility that really comes together effectively. It’s something very new and diverse, but captivates a futuristic feel and can give your audio experience a visual component as well. The aura and multifaceted nature of Roura‘s musicianship is definitely at the forefront of this track.

One thing you will gather from a collective artist like Oxaï Roura is a universe of emotion, diversity, intensity, and a multicultural side to musicianship. His music is very acclaimed in his native homeland and is executed in a way that gets you more interested in what he has to offer. He’s definitely an artist you’ll want to invest your time and research into. His story and abilities will exceed your expectations.

Artist Review: James Kennedy AKA Kountry Kayn

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Smooth, collective, and the perfect dosage of ambience is displayed in Kountry Kayn‘s single “Roll wit’ Me”.

There’s a great grasp on connecting with both Hip Hop and R&B textures when listening to the vibrant flow that gives the foreground a perfect craft that gives Kayn his signature sound. There’s great bass tone and rotund low end in the beat along with a great hook in the Pre-Chorus and Chorus.

The sing-songy style in this track really gives this song a great feel of catchiness; with very uplifting and positive lyrical content that isn’t smothered with curse words and explicit warnings. I can definitely hear an Atlantic, Interscope, Virgin, RCA, and Def Jam sensibility here; a sound that could very well be househeld.

That’s another rare thing with the newer generation of Hip Hop nowadays; the explicit nature in a lot of the lyrical content, often times repetitive, with its market’s main focus being kids and young adults. It’s refreshing to know an Artist like Kayn can bring something to this market that’s suitable for almost anyone. Especially with the message that’s carried with it.

The production quality sustains a great blend of both the edginess, catchiness, and never outdoes itself in any way, which leaves a lot of breathing room for the listener to hear how vibrant and chill the beat, tempo, and flow really is.

We here at Artist Reach hope to come together more with Kountry Kayn and his future projects. He’s got a brilliant presence to his songs, and shows a very dynamic style in his talent that deserves all the recognition possible.

Artist Review: Fernando Triff

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

This is a very special review; not just because of getting the opportunity to review this artist, but for being handpicked by the Staff at Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes/Convention (Miami, FL) to review this artist who will be performing at the yearly convention as well.

Fernando Triff is definitely some energetic food for the ear with his track “Risk Taker”, which puts a great bend to this Alternative/Rock genre with an EDM sensibility. The production’s unique plugin usage really caught my engineering part of the brain quite nicely, and really puts the trivial parts of this genre aside. But call it will, you can bob your head to this, stomp your feet, or jump around. Because this track is anything but a standstill.

His sing-songy style really broadens out his capabilities and has that uniqueness that really makes the energy aspect to this genre almost reinvent or redefine itself. You have the verses that keep the feet stomping, and the ambience in the choruses to grab your attention in a way where you feel like you just expect the unexpected. And as complex as that may sound, and whatever genre you wanna put this under, his sound has a very solid brilliance to it.

Fernando, an Award Winning Artist and currently on the MTV charts right now, has been writing and producing his own tracks since he was 16, and will be performing at next year’s Coast 2 Coast Convention in Miami. I would also like to give a huge thanks to the guys at Coast 2 Coast for hand picking us here at Artist Reach to review this artist on the rise. And to everyone else, if you are attending the convention next year…keep your eye out for Fernando Triff!
