Hailing from the UK landscapes of Manchester, upcoming and emerging artist Acid Messiah may be fairly new, but he’s already making impressive strides with his distinctively catchy signature sound. Utilizing several old school Rap flavors and cohesively mixing it with today’s modern sensibility, Acid Messiah’s breed of electronically-infused Hip Hop conjures up several innovative and flavorful textures that truly make him a standout of his calibre; drawing influence from several crucial industry heavyweights like Eminem, Mac Miller, A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, A Tribe Called Quest, and even implements influences from eclectic lyrical narratives from artists like Cage The Elephant and Tame Impala. Acid Messiah’s raw passion for his craft and insatiable desire to set the bar higher musically has been at the forefront ever since emerging into the market. And this is made especially apparent from his two newest anchor singles “Cheddar Bob” and “Inches”, two colorfully visceral tracks that demonstrate Acid Messiah’s versatility and multifaceted approach along with several angles of his songwriting ability to offer up a charismatic and catchy stylization from start to finish.
“Cheddar Bob” plays out like a character introduction. Serving up an almost 80s-stylistic Hip Hop beat with several instrumental layers, Acid Messiah’s back-and-forth narrative among the tag teaming verses delve into a storytelling method that displays two charismatic characters in the form of a hypnotic flow served up with both old school and modern flavors. This cleverly executed number is the perfect intro into Acid’s eclectic angles of his craft and truly demonstrates that he’s willing to bend the rules and even create new ones when it comes to putting out something raw, original and impressionable. This banger will win you over easily, no matter which era of Hip Hop you consider superior.
Then we have second single “Inches”, a more experimental track with atmospheric R&B flavors and a more subtle yet effective beat structure. This dangerously catchy song definitely resonates with the other single but enhances and continues Acid Messiah’s storyline and even pays dues to those who have a love for the ganja. There are several multilayered textures on this track and you can tell that the production value was very finely tuned. Acid Messiah brings the same charismatic flow to this song but also diligently showcases several new angles of his penmanship as the track plays out. It’s a hypnotic number that demands your undivided attention.
Both singles are part of Acid Messiah’s upcoming mixtape Cookie Jar, slated to drop on all major digital platforms in the coming weeks. If you’re craving something fresh and innovative but still have a love for that classic style that made the genre what it is today, then Acid Messiah will easily become an instant favorite. He’s fairly new but is already making big strides and becoming a vital voice for today’s more modern Hip Hop sensibility. These two debut singles set the bar much higher for today’s upcoming artist realm, and once you take a listen yourself, you’ll see (and hear) exactly why. You can get both tracks now on all major digital platforms. You’ll be glad you did.
Colorado-based rising rappers Teoifolis & Malachi J have been putting in major work the past year since their inceptions into the market as current members of well-known rap collective, AP. Known for their innovative flows and versatile vocal deliveries, both artists have been a driving force in the Colorado Hip Hop scene and directly demonstrate their impact with their newest collab album Malachi On Mars.
This 10-track juggernaut is the perfect exercise in getting to know both artists as not only a collective, but individually as well. Teoifolis has been in the game as a writer/producer and artist for the last decade while Malachi J emerged onto the market around three years ago. But regardless of how long each rapper has been grinding, their collaborative efforts on this record are next-level, multifaceted and really set the bar even higher for the independent Rap spectrum. One notable track on this album is opener “Unstoppable”, a song that easily lives up to its name. Malachi J immediately explodes onto the track with an aggressive flow that is persistent, consistent and cleverly executed; putting together a verse of solid bars that deliver a story telling method that easily resonates with any fan of the genre. Teoifolis jumps in on the next verse and diligently compliments the heat that Malachi J just served up, but still brings his own spin and innovative flavors to the table. Both rappers present a fast-paced delivery on this song and their cohesive connection as collaborators are very present from start to finish on this banger.
Another honorable mention on this record is “42 Days”. A track with a little more subtlety from its predecessor but still delivers equal heat. This time both rappers tag team the same verse and you can really hear their individual versatility as the track plays out. The hypnotic beat on this song brings a hauntingly ominous aura to the forefront, giving each rapper proper direction for their overall vocal delivery and the coherent word-flow that both distinctively serve up. It’s a follow up track that explores new angles for both rappers but still keeps a consistent path for them as well, building on the solid foundation that has already been put forward since the opening track.
One more notable track on this record (and personal favorite) is the piano-based hypnotic flavors of “Wine For Me”. Once again utilizing a visceral storytelling technique that casts an effective spotlight on both rappers both individually and collectively. This one has a chorus that will stick with you for days. The beat on this one implements an almost R&B feel, but conjures up more of an old school sensibility that truly gives the song charm and character that goes far beyond the average Hip Hop approach. Several new crucial angles are explored through both verses, and the catchiness of the chorus wraps the song up with a shiny ribbon in a way that makes it a standout of its calibre altogether. If you’re cruising with your girl, this banger serves up the perfect atmosphere for an unforgettable night. It’s definitely one of the next-level highlights of this album and will easily win over any fan of the Hip Hop world no matter what era they come from.
Overall, Teoifolis & Malachi J serve up several tasty flavors on this record and never leave you hearing the same thing twice. It’s not a one-trick-pony record by any means and both rappers utilize different crucial word flow styles in each song, demonstrating several angles of their talent, versatility and multifaceted approach altogether. Malachi On Mars has that insatiable staying power – the power to stay with you even long after it’s over. It’s also a record that will easily entice you to do a deeper dive into both rapper’s’ discographies and careers altogether. This is an absolute must-hear in 2023 for any avid Hip Hop fan; it’s truly a record that raised the bar for the independent artist circuit.
Trenton, New Jersey’s Horizon has been in the rap game for the last ten years, but is still very relevant today, even moreso. Known for his charismatic flow and sincere lyrical outbursts, the rising rapper comes to full fruition on his latest banger and remix single “Shine Beyond (feat. Funkghost)”, a song that is just as powerful as its name, and really sets the bar even higher for today’s independent Hip Hop market; and for good reason.
This hypnotically visceral remix is comprised of an atmospheric beat that encapsulates the perfect balance of old school flavors and today’s modern sensibility. From the drop of the first measure of bars, you can immediately resonate with Horizon’s next-level flow and delivery. He has a distinctive and vital voice for the genre and you can easily imagine his intellectual lyrical approach to be part of the mainstream market at some point. Ontop of the versatile verses, he wraps the track together with a shiny bow with the dangerously catchy and simple-yet-effective chorus. It’s one that will stick in your head immediately and you’ll definitely have a hard time getting it out. But the best part is, you wouldn’t. The chorus has the perfect melody choices for the aura of this song and that is made apparent from the very first listen.
Feature artist Funkghost shares a verse on this banger and diligently parallels what Horizon has already put on the table. Both rappers resonate effectively on this track and they offer up their own angles of the genre in a way that makes them a standout of their calibre both together or separately. It’s a brilliant collaboration from start to finish and it truly shines a light on the remix aspect, offering up something better than the original, like a remix is supposed to. “Shine Beyond” is also a track with that unwavering staying power – the power to stay with you even long after it’s over. It’s an anthem that will easily entice you to delve deeper into Horizon’s discography, as well as anticipate what he has in store for the near future.
