Exclusive Review: Maria Jacinta – “Human” Single

Review by: Justyn W. Brodsky

Hailing from the landscapes of the Netherlands, Techno/Dance recording artist Maria Jacinta began hitting the ground running in the early 2000s with her electronically-infused, distinctive sound. Since then, she has garnered an insatiable buzz throughout the music world with many solid releases, industry exposure and word of mouth. And she continues her winning streak with her latest single “Human”.

This song’s Techno and Dance combination is very atmospheric and upbeat, mixing in textures of Pop elements as well which gives her the outlet to really shine in the infectiously catchy chorus. Her exotic mid-to-high range vocals are encompassed perfectly in this song and feels like she was meant to be a vocalist for this specific genre; her lyricism is projected smoothly, her vocal melody choices are wholesome and on point, and the overall production value makes “Human” a completely visceral listening experience from beginning to end.

Maria‘s vocals really carry the torch on this track, but there’s also brilliant key progressions and structure as well, and even includes an incredible EDM-oriented synth solo towards the end of the song. But overall, one of the biggest things this track has going for it is its ability to have staying power – where the song stays with you even long after it’s over, and can still be appreciated wholesomely even years later where you find yourself coming back to this track time and time again. “Human” is currently available online and several digital music streaming platforms. You’ll thank us later for recommending it.

Exclusive Review: Darshae Kiér – “Halasana Girl” Single

Article by: Justyn W. Brodsky

Fun, vibrant, and unique are a few good ways to describe Miami-based recording artist Darshae Kiér, but most of all, he is authentic and real. And he demonstrates these qualities in his newest single “Halasana Girl”.

After a heavy street buzz formed from the success of his previous single “Translation”, Darshae knew he had to keep his winning streak going by putting out this anthemic single, and just like before, he hit the mark once again. Taking on an approach that combines smooth elements of Pop and Reggaeton, “Halasana Girl” is one of those tracks that is bound to get your hips shaking and the dance floor moving. Darshae‘s lyrical ability serves up rhyming techniques that are clear and crisp, projecting smooth bars and rhymes that is perfectly parallel with the song’s ambient and uplifting beat structure. It’s a formula that works, and Darshae sells it perfectly from start to finish.

“Halasana Girl” released last year on September 27th, and since then has become an anthem for summer-fall vibes and a staple among digital music playlists. Darshae Kiér is quickly becoming a vital voice in the hip hop community and is direct proof that underground hip hop is alive and well. If he keeps up the pace, he will easily cross over into the mainstream market; and we will be stoked when it happens. You can listen to “Halasana Girl” on SoundCloud and other digital music streaming platforms. Be sure to also follow Darshae Kiér on social media to stay up to date on his current activities, as well as future events.

Exclusive Review: Project Rod Williams – “Spin Me” Album

Review by: Justyn W. Brodsky

After Rod Williams‘ debut album ‘Fire’ released in January 2019, an insatiable buzz was set and would ultimately lead the pioneer Artist/Songwriter to begin his journey on his sophomore record. Now, in May 2020, Williams has done just that with his newest collab-driven and electronically infused juggernaut ‘Spin Me’, and it doesn’t disappoint in the least.

Under the official name Project Rod Williams, this ten track album is led by Rod himself as principal songwriter/synth/programming/backup vocalist alongside co-lead vocalists Ben Dial and Matt Williamson, who are reprising their roles from Rod’s first record, respectively. Other notable artists including Aleisha Leo and Fabian Hernandez also make contributions to the record as well. From the gate of the opening track “Shake It On The Dance Floor”, the album immediately introduces an atmosphere that is packed with many clever punches. Combining elements of Dance, Funk, Pop, Rock and Indie, this opening smasher gets right into business and really showcases an unrelenting strength of both talent and high quality production value that sets the tone for the rest of the album. With well executed three part harmony vocal melodies, catchy groove beats, melodic song structures and many different electronic textures, this record really brings the dynamics of technical production and strong songwriting to the forefront with cleverness and staying power.

The grooves continue on “Don’t Stop Me Baby” and title track “Spin Me”, which both bring additional touches to the album that really exceed your expectations after the opening track. The mysteriousness of songs “Because” and “Tears” are completely visceral and really show off the versatility of this record and are definitely standouts of this album. The consistency of the record is definitely worth noting and it makes it very easy to delve into and get comfortable with. The vocal ranges are instantly noticeable and beyond impressive when they first kick in; the dueling vocal tracks and signature synth sound really comes together in a way that gives a nod to 90s/early 2000s Dance elements with a complete modern makeover into something completely of its own kind, producing equal parts originality and familiarity with its overall execution. Most of all, ‘Spin Me’ is an accessible album for both fans and new listeners alike. It’s an impressionable album, and you can tell that it was written and produced with absolute care. If you haven’t heard Project Rod Williams yet, then this album will make you an instant fan. ‘Spin Me’ completely lives up to its title. The album officially drops on May 24th and will be available online and on music downloading platforms.

Artist Review: NuJ4X – “Wilmas & Bettys” Single

Review by: Justyn W. Brodsky & Sydney B

If you’ve been one of our more dedicated readers over the last few years, then you’ll definitely remember elite Nashville DJ/Producer NuJ4X. And one thing this artist does consistently is continually exceed expectations with every release. And he does it again with his most recent hit single “Wilmas & Bettys”.

Paying a direct homage to the classic cartoon The Flintstones, this track grabs you from the very beginning, most notably the hook from the verses – which carries a Maroon 5 vibe, but much smoother and subtle. You will find yourself singing along to it on the very first listen, and easily could be a chart topper in its own right as well as the song that gives NuJ4X his introduction to the commercial market. In short, “Wilmas & Bettys” is catchy at dangerous levels.

This track has all the elements – vibe, catchiness, versatility and talent. But another thing it has most notably is sustainability – a way where the song sticks with you and can be appreciated through multiple listens without ending up stale or boring. It’s the kind of song where you wanna play it for your friends and see their first reaction.

This song borrows many components from today’s more contemporary genres, but has more than enough charm and wit to really stand on its own and carry massive weight. It’s an anthemic single that boldly showcases NuJ4X‘s raw talent and skills behind the mixing board ,as well as his vocal and songwriting structures that is consistent with his prior releases. But there is just something about this track that makes it completely unforgettable, and it’s done in a way without having to resort to pushing the envelope with post production theatrics. It’s good old fashioned solid songwriting – the most effective way an artist truly stands out among the crowd.

We’ve had Beckys, Dolls and Baes. But once you take a listen to this single, you’ll be searching for your Wilmas and Bettys in no time. It’s a clever branding song that is delivered up in a hit single format that puts other female-attributed tracks to the wayside. We dare you to get “Wilmas & Bettys” out of your head after the first listen – you won’t be able to do it. This song will get stuck on you. And you’ll be glad it did.

About the song:

Wilmas & Bettys is a song about surfing and surfer girls. The name “Betty” was a popular term for really attractive girls who surfed in the 1980s and a bit into the 90s as well. Betty is also the name of Betty Rubble from “The Flintstones” and Wilmas & Bettys is a clever double entendre for both of those names. The lyrics are built from actual surfing lingo. “Dawn Patrol”, “Ride A-Frames & Chase the Ghost”, “Barneys”, “Ankle Busters”, “Hodads”, “Bennys” “Get the Skinny” etc. All surfing terms. I wrote this song because I’ve always loved the ocean, always loved the beach, always loved surfing and the island / tropical lifestyle.

Artist Review: The Jive Aces – “Diggin’ The Roots Volume 1 & 2” LPs

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Don’t just go back to your roots – dig them!

We’ve heard a lot of today’s takes on classic songs from many new age contemporary artists, as well as tribute bands and cover artists putting their own spin on yesterday’s hits from many calibers of genres with a fresh additive or two. Some do it well, some fall flat, and then there’s the few and far between gem that comes out swinging with the charms of both yesterday’s and today’s most influential eras wrapped up into one super tight package. That, my friends, is The Jive Aces.

This UK-based band are definitely not a bunch of randies by any means. Renowned worldwide for their high-energy spectacular showmanship, this elite group has garnered an enormous following from a combination of acclaims including their viral video for the track “Bring Me Sunshine” and for also being the first live band to reach the final rounds of “Britain’s Got Talent”. Since then, The Jive Aces have firmly established themselves as the UK’s No.1 Jive & Swing band, and show no indication of slowing down their momentum anytime soon.

So with a résumé like that, you know there has to be something of theirs worth putting on your playlist. And their 2-Volume LPs Diggin’ The Roots are shining examples of their tightly knit signature sound of songs we’ve all come to know and love over many, many years. Boasting into today’s production value while maintaining that old school influential charm, we get a more than solid performance on both records comprised of eclectically professional musicians that absolutely own their roles on every track to deliver a sound that not only resonates with the classic each song became long ago, but with a whole new realm of energy and technique that gets us to appreciate them all over again in a whole new way, in a whole new era.

Diggin’ The Roots is exactly as advertised. They are tracks that have brought on endless inspiration and appreciation among a majority of today’s prominent artists and are the roots to their stories. On The Jive Aces Volume 1 record, RockinRhythm & Blues, we get a tastefully blended album of 13 tracks with many flavorful additives. Classic tunes on Volume 1 include smash hits “Jump, Jive & Wail”, “Feelin’ Happy”, “I Want You To Be My Baby”, and many others of the same caliber. Led by lead vocalist Ian Clarkson, who also takes up roles on trumpet and ukulele, his clean and vibrant voice in the forefront of every song really solidifies the band’s approach. The right rhythm section really paves the way for the rest of the band, and really puts the proper backing behind Clarkson’s effective vocal takes and melody placements. With hot piano leads, an anthemic brass section and funky fiddles added to the mix, this fresh look at some of our favorite Rockin’ Rhythm & Blues tracks will definitely get you up off of your feet and own the dance floor.

On their Volume 2 record, Hot Jazz, we get the same Jive Aces vibe with their tight grasp on 13 more classic tunes that combine equal parts originality and familiarity, just like Volume 1. Staying true to form like the previous chapter of this 2-part release, we get an instrumentally versatile execution of fan favorites from the classic Jazz era that includes “Jeepers Creepers”, “On The Sunny Side Of The Street” and “It’s Been A Long, Long Time“. Both of these records absolutely compliment each other and bring a brand new timeless edge to every perfected measure. The showmanship factors are undeniable and one thing that screams from these releases are the words “INCREDIBLE LIVE SHOW”. Diggin’ The Roots really brings out each member’s musicianship abilities and when put together, collectively bring out a stick dynamite just ready to go off at every event they play. And their devoted fan base and successful career milestones reflect that. But one of the most notable things about The Jive Aces is their authenticity – there is no wacky autotune, no oversaturated production techniques, and absolutely no cheat methods whatsoever being used. This band can produce live exactly what they do in the studio, which is a rare thing in today’s digital age of music.

The Jive Aces are the breath of fresh air you’ve been needing for a long time. They are a standout of their caliber, and once you take a listen to both volumes of Diggin’ The Roots, you’ll see and hear exactly why they are the UK’s number 1 Jive & Swing band.

Press Release: Giovi Slated To Release His Hypnotic Re-Imagination And Cover Of “In The Air Tonight” On 11/1/19

Article by: Justyn Brodsky

Delving into ambient song structures and multifaceted production value with his authentic style, rising artist/producer Giovi gears up to release his innovative re-imagination and EDM/Dance cover of Phil Collins’ iconic hit song “In The Air Tonight”.

Countless artists have fostered the idea of releasing their own versions of songs we’ve all come to know and love, and some have even entered the industry specifically from doing this successfully. But when it comes to the masterful production techniques of Giovi, he is doing something different with the concept – he is releasing his version of the song in an entirely different genre and format.

As opposed to just covering a song and giving it a different spin with your own version primarily from vocals, Giovi really crafts the song in an entirely different light and showcases a brilliant re-imagination of the hit song and even puts different angles on it that gets you to appreciate it in new ways you’ve never heard. His electronically infused signature sound offers up a hypnotic beat structure that is fast-paced compared to the original version of the song, and diligently works with the song’s melodies and chord progressions to fit his style like a glove. This version is very ambient, energetic and viscerally soothing with feel good vibes that out a brilliant edge into the song’s entire aura. It’s the perfect reminiscence of originality and familiarity, giving his audience a taste of something new and fresh of something that is still recognizable and identifiable.

Whether it’s in your car or at the club, Giovi‘s version of “In The Air Tonight” is an absolute gem that encompasses his passion as an artist, and versatility as a producer. The song officially drops on November 1st of 2019 and will be available on digital music retailers and streaming platforms everywhere. Mark your calendars!
