Exclusive Review: Strike Boogie – “Yesterday” Single

Review by: Justyn W. Brodsky

Toronto-based Hip Hop pioneer Strike Boogie is no stranger to the game. Since 2010, the self-made Recording Artist, Executive Producer and Composer has been hitting the ground running with his multifaceted signature sound and clever lyrical punchlines since coming out the gate, and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

His latest single “Yesterday” produced by Blue Jones (Maino, French Montana, B.o.B., Bobby Shmurda, and more) not only a triumphantly catchy track, but a solid demonstration of Strike‘s versatile skills with lyrics and hooks. His vocals are not only executed effectively, but are also crisp and clear in the overall mix. The production value never outdoes itself and provides a beat that is real, visceral, and really puts Strike‘s voice to the forefront. And when you take a close listen to the lyrics, they project an ambience that this lyricist is solidified with his artistic merit, and can express it effectively and unwaveringly.

Strike, on top of being an uprising recording artist, also comes from a renowned musical family; which includes his grandfather Ras Shorty, who invented Soca & Jamoo, same family as Farley Flex (award-winning Canadian Urban music mogul and judge on CTV’s Canadian Idol), Baha Men (known for “Who Let The Dogs Out”), among several others. Strike‘s sound is reminiscent of many artist influences from the 80s/90s era, but also has a fresh modern touch that resonates perfectly with today’s mainstream chart topping artists in the Hip Hop/R&B realm. It’s a sound that gives a nostalgic callback to some of the greats that started it all, but maintains a perfect balance of both equal parts originality and familiarity, making Strike one of the most accessible artists of his caliber.

“Yesterday” is highly acclaimed and highly recommended by us at the Artist Reach camp, and you’ll thank us later after you take a listen for yourself.
