Album Review: Trey Wonder – “Can’t Wait” LP

Review by: Justyn W, Brodsky

When it comes to versatility and expressing unrelenting artistic merit, Hawaii-based indie artist Trey Wonder hits home with his full length record ‘Can’t Wait’, a collection of multifaceted tracks that bring back an old school production style with several rock and indie elements that bring a sense of nostalgia.

Trey, a master of his craft with 25 years of guitar and 20 years of drums under his belt, the performer/songwriter started garnering an unwavering buzz after the release/success of his sophomore album ‘The Ghost Of My Father’ in 2018, which has amassed over 500,000 streams on Spotify alone. Now with his current release ‘Can’t Wait’ making its rounds in the market, Trey has once again raised the bar by continuing to release hauntingly grungy and genre-bending Rock songs that are equally compelling as they are diverse. With fast tempo changes, ominously catchy vocal hooks, punchy rhythm section tones and a style reminiscent of blends that concoct ingredients from artists like Nirvana, The Ramones, Weezer and others of a similar caliber, ‘Can’t Wait’ really shines a light on Trey‘s free spirited writing style that is innovative, inventive, and really brings us through a journey through several Rock genre and sub-genre approaches you never thought could be conjured. This album is one of those gems you might find in someone’s random CD or record collection, but at the same time could easily be out in the forefront making waves among the masses of Trey‘s fans that have always been there, as well as new fans just discovering him.

This album is an explosion of versatility and combines several eras of Rock elements all stirred together into a tasty stew of endless musicianship factors, tightly knit chord progressions, and a classic production style that brings us back to a time where music really caught our attention. ‘Cant Wait’ is a must-listen in every way, and you can thank us later for recommending it.

Press Release: Trey Wonder Set To Release His Sophomore Album “The Ghost Of My Father” On November 23rd

Article by: Justyn Brodsky

Grungy, versatile and unwaveringly charismatic with his viscerally multi-genre Indie/Punk approach, Hawaiian island-based artist Trey Wonder is geared up to release his sophomore record The Ghost Of My Father.

If Weezer and Radiohead started a 90s-era punk band, then Trey Wonder would definitely be recruited as their lead singer. And the brilliance of both groundbreaking signature sounds is what The Ghost Of My Father brings to the table. We have a collection of tracks that dynamically blend an edge-of-your-seat Indie sensibility, and several elements of punk, grunge, and an eclectically melodic style that is reminiscent of several rock eras.

Each self written and self produced track is comprised of a clever mixture with musical elements that include melodically versatile vocals, loud and crunchy guitar progressions, a tight knit pounding rhythm section and dangerously catchy choruses. He’s an original in his own right, but still can be heard as recognizable among the drawn influences from some of yesterday’s and today’s rock icons. You never hear the same thing twice, but you can tell it’s the same artist commanding the wheel, and the infectiously catchy overdubs in every chorus will stick with you throughout the record even after it’s over.

On top of this record being a follow up to Trey‘s predecessor Nice Fish, this new album is also an attribute to his father, and is being released on the anniversary to his death on November 23rd. This record is for any avid Indie Rock listener that yearns for the glory days when punk was actually good, and wasn’t afraid to show its melodic side. The Ghost Of My Father will be available on all digital music retailers and streaming platforms on Friday.
